COFONC Joins Statewide Disaster Readiness Initiative
Community foundations are uniquely positioned to lead and support their communities when disaster strikes – and for many years afterward. They are purpose-built to get resources where they are needed most in a crisis, and to adapt quickly to changing needs on the ground. They have deep knowledge of their community’s needs, and strong trust-based relationships with local nonprofits, government, community leaders and donors.
We’re pleased to announce the Community Foundation of Nevada County (COFONC) has been selected to join a pilot cohort of the League of California Community Foundation's Disaster Readiness Initiative. After a competitive application process, our foundation stood out for its commitment to growing our disaster preparedness.
This year-long program (April 2025 - April 2026) will strengthen our foundation's capacity to lead during and after natural disasters through peer collaboration, expert-led virtual workshops, and hands-on project implementation. Midway through the cohort, participating foundations will have the opportunity to apply for a $75,000 grant to support a capacity-building project that enhances their disaster response capabilities. These capacity-building grants enable foundations to translate insights gained during the program into actionable initiatives, such as building internal systems, strengthening organizational resilience, and addressing critical needs.
